Dowry Death

I read the New Yorker article of June 19, 2023, and there was an article about dowry in India: Since the 20th century, dowry has been increasing, including but not limited to cash, gold and silver jewelry and wedding expenses, etc., usually ranging from a few thousand rupees to tens of thousands of rupees. But it's enough to empty a home. If not, the daughter married in the past will face the torture of eternal peace. It occurred to me that the same problem exists in other Asian countries, especially in China. Although the problem is not as serious as in India, low dowry prices can also cause men to despise and oppress women after marriage. Also, in different places there will be different betrothal price requirements.
